The Tri-Conic Challenge Version 2.18 starts its season for 2018 with our now 'Famous' No. 7 Challenge (Race the Train) on Canada Day - July 1st, 2018. Our event in partnership with the Tri-Conic Challenge (Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce) features FOUR different run options including: SMOLTS - This run is for kids of any age who just want to go for a short sprint. The run will happen at the McLean Mill National Historic Site once all other runners have arrived. It will be a short 500m run through the historic site. Included in the fee for the kids will be a TRAIN PASS that will get them to the McLean Mill from the Train Station in downtown Port Alberni.
The other runs include the Feature - No. 7 Challenge 10k race the train which starts at the Train Station and ends at the McLean Mill site. Note that the distance is slightly more than 10k measuring somewhere closer to 10.3km for those counting! Our 1/2 Marathon will start at the same time as the 10k covering the same route to the Mill and then carrying on over to Beaver Creek Road turning south then winding its way back to the Mill Site. Both of these runs will not only compete with the Steam Train but they'll watch the 61st Annual Canada Day Parade wind its way toward them along Stamp Avenue!
The Full Marathon will feature an 8:00am start (vs. the 10:00am for the 1/2 and 10k) folliowing the same route to the mill and again like the 1/2 it will head over to Beaver Creek Road only those folks will turn right and work their way up to beautiful Stamp River Provincial Park. From there they'll run along the ranging riverside, perhaps see some Sockeye jumping the falls since it will be during the Sockeye run and then they'll hit a short route through the trails back over to Beaver Creek Road and work their way back to the McLean Mill.
The feature of course is the 'Race the Train' however we are really excited to bring you this awesome event. We'll showcase some of our cool Steam Products including the famous JJ Logging Show that Dad's (and Mom's/Families) will love. We'll include a ride back to Port Alberni on the train for our earliest registrants (capacity limitations exist). Those not getting back by train will be provided with bus transportation.
Burgers, fries, and something to drink will be on us as our welcome to the McLean Mill and Tri-Conic Challenge version 2.18. Stay tuned for more information on this cool event as it becomes available. Follow the Tri-Conic Challenge at: www.facebook.com/triconicchallenge http://www.triconic.ca
